President

Randy Sleight, EMAIL

From the Class of '71, Randy Sleight ran on the JV Cross Country team and played JV Baseball as a sophomore.  As a junior, he lettered in Cross Country, Soccer, and Tennis and was voted Most Inspirational on the Tennis team.  As a senior, Randy was elected Captain of the first West Seattle Cross Country team to win the Metro League Southern Division title.  In the Spring, he was ranked #1 on the Tennis team and was again voted Most Inspirational.

Randy graduated from the University of Washington in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree.  He became a PLS (Professional Land Surveyor) and PE (Professional Engineer).  He retired in 2019 as a Chief Engineering Officer of Snohomish County, although his engineering expertise has remained in demand since then.  Over his distinguished career, Randy earned a number of professional awards including Washington State Government Engineer of the Year in 2005, and was honored also that year as a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Don Conners, EMAIL

Don graduated from West Seattle with the Class of '58.

While at West Seattle, Don was a Forward on the Basketball team.

In the Spring, Don ran on the Track & Field team.  He competed in the hurdles and the 440 yard run.  His mile relay team finished first at the City Relay Meet held at Husky Stadium.

After high school, he attended Seattle University, graduating in 1965 with a Bachelor of Education degree.

Now a retired school teacher, Don taught for 37 years in Seattle and one in St Helens, Oregon.  He also coached Basketball, Soccer, Cross Country, and Track & Field.

His hobbies include photography, model trains, and reading a variety of books.

Nancy Rutherford Sleight

Nancy excelled in both ballet and gymnastics.  She was on the Metro League championship gymnastics team in 1972 as a junior and earned multiple All Metro honors as a senior, competing in All Around and specializing in Floor Exercise and Balance Beam.

Beyond her many gymnastics accompishements, she was a cheerleader, was voted "Most Accomplished" by her senior class, and was a valedictorian of the Class of '73.    

As a freshman at Cottey College in Nevada, MO, she earned awards in ballet, then transferred to Seattle Pacific University where she earned varsity letters in gymnastics.  Nancy graduated Magna Cum Laude in Mathematics in 1977.

After college, she worked as a Systems Engineer with IBM from 1978 to 1988. 

In 1981, Nancy married West Seattle classmate Dick Sleight.  Nancy designed and served as the General Contractor for their new home in Bellevue in 1992-93.

Dick and Nancy's son and two daughters earned 22 varsity letters between them in high school, including fourteen trips to State.  At Seattle Pacific University, son Nathanael earned ten varsity letters and three team awards running Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track.

Dick Sleight,  EMAIL

Dick ran JV Cross Country in 1970, and lettered in Track & Field in '71, '72, and '73He lettered in Cross Country in '71 as a member of the Metro League Southern Division champions, and was voted Captain and Most Inspirational on the 1972 Cross Country team, finishing second in the Metro Southern Division championship race of 49 runners.  He was chosen as Captain of the 1973 Track & Field team and took 4th place in the 2-mile run at the Metro League championships at Husky Stadium with a time of 9:52.  He also lettered in 1973 in Swimming.

Dick graduated in 1977 from the University of Washington with a B.A. in Economics (after his first two years in Engineering) but was hired onto the University of Washington College of Engineering faculty at the age of 22.  He taught there from 1978 to 1989 while earning his M.Ed. and Ph.D. degrees. 

Beginning in 1989, Dick served and taught at Seattle Pacific University and was named an emeritus faculty member upon his retirement in 2021 from the SPU School of Business, Government, and Economics.
